Rattan, Tropical Cane Mat, Matting, Open Rattan Webbing, Cane Webb, Thonett, Thonet, Tonett Material, Brown Cane

There are a great fray on the name of this material. Some name: Tropical Cane Mat, Matting, Rattan, Cane Webb, Thonett, Thonet, Tonett Material, Pre Woven Cane, open rattan webbing. You can see a closed, non pitted mat - in the left picture - made from the inner part of the rattan plant, whilst - in the right picture - you can see an open, pitted cane webb which made from the outer part, the rind of the rattan plant. So they have different properties. The first are an strong, well painting and coloured material. The second are a very strong but only paintig and coloured with acryl or acetone base paint material. But the backstroke of this mat easily painting and coloured any paint and stain. In this case before the painting, first you must work of the end of the filaments in the backstroke. It is not a heavy work but subservient shouldn't to forget it.
 
   Thonet (thonett, tonett, woven cane, open rattan webbing) material are the most well-known from the mat made from rattan. This is a pitted mat. Old times it is used to make seat part of the chairs on the period furnitures. Today tthonet (thonett, tonett, open rattan webbing) material also use hide of  radiator, heater; paravans,  and  thonet (thonett, tonett, woven cane, rattan, open rattan webbing) material also use to make furniture door panel such places where are very imortant of the well airing. It is very well bear the load. Before you flex this material into the door panel or frame, you must soak the (thonett, tonett, woven cane, rattan, open rattan webbing) material for 2 days in water. In this way you get a soften, well shaped material. The (thonett, tonett, woven cane, rattan, open rattan webbing) material can stick on the wood frame thick by stapler. It is easy to do at home.  Or another method a manual miller make an etched gouge (pit). A peddig cane (caning splines) muck with wood glue. Then with the glued peddig cane (caning splines) wedge in the wet (thonett, tonett, woven cane, rattan) material in the etched gouge (pit).

The closed mat, cane matting, closed rattan webbing made from extra wide width = 10 mm, wide width= 5 mm and thin width = 2.5 mm filament.  Most often use them as door panel material for furniture, push door, paravan, place separator.
